Rainbow-coloured rubbish. This is the colourful waste废弃物 created by a Swedish city with a unique唯一的 recycling回收利用 system体系. Like many cities in Sweden, Eskelstunna has an impressive给人印象深刻的 recycling回收利用 record记录. It met the EU's 2020 target of recycling 50% of waste废弃物 many years ago. But almost everyone who lives here follows a strict recycling回收利用 policy政策 at home. People are expected to sort整理 their household waste废弃物 into seven separate categories, including food, textiles, cartons and metal. But what really makes this system体系 stand out is the bright colour code.
The reason for this becomes clear at the city's recycling回收利用 plant. The bags arrive all jumbled up because they are collected altogether完全 once a fortnight from outside people's houses. But thanks to those bright colours, scanners can select the bags and separate them efficiently有效率地.
