These ocean waves are among the earth's most complicated（复杂的） natural phenomenon（现象）. The basic features include a crest（[物] 波峰）, the highest point of the wave, a trough, the lowest point, a height, the vertical（垂直的） distance from the trough to the crest（[物] 波峰）, a wavelength（[物] 波长）, the horizontal（地平的） distance between two wave crests（[物] 波峰）, and a period which is the time it takes a wave crest to travel one wavelength.
