Junk Food

Hey Emma, did you know junk food can be yummy but not so good for us?

00:00
11:34
Hey Emma, did you know junk food can be yummy but not so good for us? Yeah, I've heard that. But why is it not good for us? Well, junk food like burgers and chips has lots of stuff(材料) that's not good for our bodies, like(喜欢) too much fat and sugar. It can make(使) us unhealthy if we eat too much. Oh, I see.
So, what happens if we eat too much junk food? Eating too much junk food can make us gain(获得) too much weight, and that's not good for our bodies. It can also make us feel tired and not as strong. Wow, I didn't know that. But why do people still eat junk food if it's not good for us? Well, junk food can taste really good, and sometimes it's just easier to grab(攫取) something quick when we're hungry.
But we have to remember to balance(使平衡) it with healthier foods too. That makes sense. So, what are some healthier alternatives to junk food? Well, instead of chips, we can snack on things like fruits or nuts. And instead of burgers, we can have sandwiches with lots of veggies. Those sound like tasty alternatives.
I'll have to try them out next time I'm hungry. Thanks for the info( 信息), Olivia. No problem, Emma. It's important to take care of our bodies, even when we're tempted(诱惑) by yummy junk food. You're right, Olivia. But sometimes it's hard to resist(抵抗) junk food, especially when it's all around us.
Totally(完全地). Like when we're at parties or watching movies with friends. There's always junk food everywhere. Yeah, and it's easy to just keep munching( 用力咀嚼) on it without thinking. But I guess we should try to be more mindful about what we're eating, right? Exactly.
Maybe we can try to limit(限制) how much junk food we eat and focus more on enjoying healthier snacks. That sounds like a good plan. Maybe we could even encourage(鼓励) each other to make(使) healthier choices when we're together. Yeah, that's a great idea. We can support each other and make it easier to resist the temptation of junk food. And we can also find(找到) fun ways to make(使) healthier snacks together, like making fruit smoothies or homemade trail(痕迹) mix(混合).
I love that idea. It'll be like our own little healthy snack party whenever(无论何时) we hang(挂) out. Definitely. I think making healthier choices can still be fun and delicious if we get creative with it. Absolutely(完全地). Plus, our bodies will thank us for giving them the nutrients(营养物) they need to stay strong and energized(激励).
For sure. Thanks for brainstorming( 集体讨论) with me, Olivia. I'm feeling more motivated( 有动机的) to make(使) better food choices now. Anytime(任何时候), Emma. We're in this together. Let's support each other on our journey to healthier eating.
Hey, Olivia. Have you ever noticed how junk food can affect our mood(心情)? Yeah, definitely. Sometimes when I eat too much junk food, I feel kind of sluggish(行动迟缓的) and not as happy. Right? I read somewhere that junk food can actually mess with our brain chemicals(化学制品) and make(使) us feel down.
That makes sense. Like, when we eat sugary stuff, it gives us a quick energy boost(推动), but then we crash(碰撞) later. Exactly. And that can make us feel irritable and moody( 喜怒无常的). It's like a roller coaster for our emotions(情感). I hate feeling like that.
It's like junk food gives us a temporary(暂时的) high(高水平), but then we pay for it later with the low(低). Totally. So, maybe being more mindful about what we eat can also help us feel better emotionally(感情上地). Definitely. Eating balanced(平衡的) meals with lots of veggies and whole grains(谷物) can help keep our moods(心情) more stable. And we can also try to find other ways to cope(对付) with stress or boredom( 厌烦) instead of turning to junk food.
Yeah. Like going for a walk, doing some yoga(瑜珈(意为“结合”), or even just chatting with a friend. There are lots of healthier ways to boost our mood. I'm gonna start paying more attention to how different foods make me feel. Maybe then I can make better choices for my body and mind. That's a great idea, Emma.
We've got this. We can nourish(滋养) our bodies and our minds with the right kind of fuel(燃料). Hey, Olivia, do you think there's a way to enjoy junk food without it being so bad for us? Um, that's an interesting question, Emma. I think it's all about moderation and balance. Yeah.
Like maybe we can still have a treat every now and then? But not all the time. Exactly. It's okay to enjoy junk food occasionally(偶然) as long as we don't overdo it. So maybe instead of having junk food every day, we can save it for special occasions(时机) or as a rare(稀薄的) treat. That sounds like a good plan.
It's all about finding that balance between indulging(满足) in what we love and taking care of our bodies. And we can also try to make healthier versions(版本) of our favorite junk foods at home. That's a great idea. We can experiment(尝试) with recipes and find(找到) healthier alternatives that still taste delicious. Like making baked(烤) sweet potato fries instead of regular fries or using whole wheat(小麦) crust(面包皮) for pizza? Exactly.
There are so many ways to enjoy the flavors(口味) we love without all the extra fat and sugar. I'm excited to start trying out some new recipes. Maybe we can even have a cooking night together and make our own healthier versions of junk food. I love that idea, Emma. It'll be like a fun challenge(挑战) to see how creative we can get with our cooking. Definitely.
And who knows? Maybe we'll discover some new favorite dishes along the way. I can't wait. Let's make a pact(合同) to enjoy our favorite foods in moderation and get creative with healthier alternatives. Hey, Olivia. I've been thinking more about our conversation on junk food and its impact(影响) on our health.
Do you think there's a way we can strike(打) a balance(使平衡) between enjoying the occasional(偶然的) treat and maintaining a healthier lifestyle overall? Absolutely, Emma. Finding that balance is key. I think it's about making conscious(意识到的) choices and being mindful of what we're putting into our bodies. That makes sense. So instead of completely cutting out junk food, we could perhaps limit how often we indulge in it.
Exactly. It's all about moderation. We can still enjoy our favorite snacks and treats, but in smaller portions(部分) and less frequently(频繁地). That sounds like a reasonable(合理的) approach(靠近), but sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation, especially when junk food is so readily(容易地) available. I totally get that, Emma. Junk food is everywhere, from vending machines at school to fast food restaurants on every corner.
But maybe we can start by making small changes, like choosing healthier options when we can. That's a good idea. Like opting(选择) for a salad instead of fries when we're out for a lunch or snacking on fruits instead of candy when we're craving(恳求) something sweet. Exactly. And we can also try to make healthier versions of our favorite junk foods at home. That way, we have more control over what goes into them.
I love the idea of getting creative in the kitchen. Maybe we could have a cooking night once a week and experiment with different recipes. Yes. That sounds like so much fun. We can try making homemade pizza with whole wheat crust and lots of veggies, or bake our own sweet treats using healthier ingredients(成分) like oats and honey. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.
And not only will we be enjoying delicious food, but we'll also be nourishing our bodies with nutrients. Exactly. It's all about nourishing our bodies and treating(对待) ourselves with kindness. And by making these small changes, we can still enjoy the flavors we love while taking care of our health. I'm feeling really motivated to start making these changes, Olivia. I think with our support and encouragement( 鼓励), we can definitely make healthier choices together.
Absolutely, Emma. We've got this. Let's commit(犯罪) to making(使) positive changes and supporting each other every step of the way. Vocabulary Review All right. Let's break down our conversation about junk food into a vocabulary review for English learners. First off, junk food refers to foods that are high in calories(卡路里(热量单位)), sugar, and fat, but low in nutrients.
Examples include burgers, chips, and candy dot(点) dot(点). When we talk about moderation, we mean finding a balance or not doing something too much. For instance(实例), it's okay to have a small piece of cake occasionally(偶然), but not every day. Indulge means to allow yourself to enjoy something, usually something you like, but maybe shouldn't have too much of. Like, I'll indulge in a piece of chocolate cake for my birthday. Conscious choices are decisions you make after thinking about them carefully.
So instead of grabbing the first thing you see, you might make a conscious choice to eat a salad instead of fries. Portions refer to the amount of food you eat in one sitting. So if you're watching your weight, you might try eating smaller portions of junk food. Craving(渴望) means(方法) really wanting something, like when you have a strong desire(愿望) for ice cream, even though( 虽然) you know you shouldn't. I'm craving pizza tonight. Ingredients are the parts or pieces that go into making a dish.
For example, the ingredients for a salad might include lettuce([园艺] 生菜), tomatoes, and cucumbers(黄瓜). Whole wheat refers to a type of grain that's less processed(加工) and has more nutrients(营养物) than regular wheat(小麦). So choosing whole wheat bread over white bread is a healthier option. Nourishing means providing what is needed for growth(增长) and health. So when we eat fruits and vegetables, we're nourishing our bodies with vitamins([生化] 维生素) and minerals(矿物). Encouragement is when you give someone support or confidence(信心).
Like, your words of encouragement really helped me feel better about my decision. Commit means to promise or dedicate(致力) yourself to something. So when we commit to making healthier choices, we're promising to stick(刺) to them. Positive changes are improvements(改进) or adjustments(调整) that have a good impact(影响). So eating more fruits and veggies would be a positive change for our health. And supporting each other means(平均值) helping and encouraging(鼓励) one another.
It's like having a buddy(伙伴) to cheer(使振作) you on as you make(使) healthy choices together. Overall(全部地), our conversation showed how important it is to make(使) mindful decisions about what we eat and how those choices can affect our health and happiness(幸福). Let's keep supporting each other on our journey to better eating habits.
