Hello and welcome to our English Conversation podcast. I'm Emma, your host(主人) for today, and I'm joined by Olivia and Daniel. We're here to have a natural and informative( 提供信息的) conversation on a topic that's perfect for English learners. We'll be using simple language to make sure it's accessible(易接近的) to everyone. Be sure to check the description for explanations of the vocabulary we use. Let's get started.
Today, we're going to talk about traveling. Traveling means going to different places, usually for fun or to learn new things. Hey, Emma and Olivia, when you travel, you can experience(经验) different cultures. Culture is the way of life of a group of people, like their customs(习惯), food, and art. That's right, Daniel. And when we travel, we often pack our bags.
To pack means(平均值) to put clothes and other things into a bag for a trip. Packing( 包装) can be tricky( 狡猾的) because you have to decide what to bring. To bring means to take something with you. And don't forget about souvenirs(纪念品). Souvenirs are things you buy to help you remember your trip. Yes, souvenirs are great.
Also, when we travel, we might stay in a hotel. A hotel is a place where you can sleep, eat, and sometimes do other activities while you're away from home. Hotels are convenient(方便的), but some people prefer hostels(旅社). A hostel is like a hotel but usually cheaper and with fewer services. Traveling also means trying new cuisines. Cuisine is a style of cooking, like Italian or Chinese.
Oh, I love tasting new foods when I travel. It's part of the adventure. An adventure is an exciting and sometimes risky(危险的) experience. And we can't forget about landmarks([航]陆标). Landmarks are important places or buildings that are well known(已知的). Right.
Like the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Great Wall of China(瓷器), they are famous landmarks. When we visit these places, we often take pictures to remember the experience. To take pictures means to use a camera to capture(捕获) images. Traveling can also teach us patience(忍耐). Patience is the ability to wait for something without getting upset(心烦的). That's true, especially when there are delays( 拖延).
Delays are when things happen later than planned, like a flight not leaving on time. But all these experiences help us grow, to grow means to develop and become more mature(成熟的). Absolutely(完全地), Emma. And sharing our travel stories can inspire(激发) others to explore(探险) the world too. So, let's keep traveling and learning new things. Traveling really opens up a world of possibilities.
It means there are so many different experiences we can have. That's so true, Emma. When we travel, we often immerse(沉浸) ourselves in new environments. To immerse means to become completely involved(棘手的) in something. And each place has its own atmosphere(大气). Atmosphere refers to the feeling or mood(心情) that you get from a place.
I've noticed that too. Some places are lively(活泼的), meaningful( 意味深长的) of life and energy, while others are tranquil(安静的), which means peaceful(和平的) and quiet. Speaking of atmosphere, local markets are a great place to feel the energy of a city. Local markets are where people sell food, clothes, and other items.
