Brian, I'm so happy you came to visit me. How are you? My favorite grandson. Hello, Grandpa. You know I like(喜欢) coming here, but my father doesn't have much time. He's the one who brings me here, and since(因为) he's working, I can't come alone(单独地).
I understand. Don't worry( 担忧), but you're very tall. How old are you now? I am 14. I will be 15 next month. Will you come to my birthday party?
Absolutely(完全地). I wouldn't miss it. I will be there in the morning, Son. Great. That told me you were sick. What happened?
Are you okay? Well, you know, time goes by(通过). I am not getting younger. Soon I won't be here, and that's okay. I am prepared for that. Life works that way.
Don't say that. You are strong. You will be with us for a long time. Who knows? But it is a great opportunity(机会) to tell you some things. Things I have learned during my time here, and I am sure they'll be useful for you.
So, I want you to listen to me, please, and remember everything I have to tell you. Be kind( 善良的). As(当…的时候) the saying(话) goes, in a world where you can be anything, be kind. The phrase "be kind" was always something my dad wanted us to focus(使集中) on and to bring into the world. There was never a question of when one should be kind, but that this should be a way in which we'll live. Also, have compassion(同情).
Being neutral(中立的) and always willing(愿意的) to listen, to understand. Having compassion for others will help you give peace(和平) of mind(头脑) in situations where emotions(情感) can run high. It can be easy to say things you don't mean or make rash(轻率的) decisions(决定). Believe me. However, I encourage(鼓励) you to pause(暂停) and to listen with an open heart(心) so that you're not looking to be right, but to merely(仅仅) be understood, as(当…的时候) well as(当…的时候) understanding the other person.
