There were dishes, cups, bottles, pans平底锅, tomatoes, cakes and many other things to pack捆扎 in the hampers大篮子. As soon as George and Harris started packing捆扎, they broke打破 a cup and this was just the beginning开始. George is the worst packer包装工人 in the world. When George dies, Harris will be the worst packer包装工人 in the world. They walked on things and broke打破 them. Harris put a big jar罐子 of jam on top of a tomato and crushed压碎 it. George stepped on a big packet小包(裹) of butter and Harris sat on it.
Soon there was butter everywhere. They packed捆扎 the pies(西点)馅饼 in the hamper大篮子, then they put heavy things on top of them. The pies(西点)馅饼 were crushed压碎, just like the tomato. In the middle of all this, there was Montmorency, of course. He put his leg in the sugar and soon there was sugar everywhere. He ran away with the teaspoons茶匙. He pretended假装 that the lemons were rats and killed杀死 three of them. This was Montmorency's idea想法 of fun. At one in the morning, the packing包装 was finished.
We were ready for bed. George said, "What time shall I wake醒来 you up?" Harris said, "Seven o'clock." I said, "Six o'clock." "Wake醒来 us up at half past six, George," we said. It was Mrs. Poppets who woke醒来 me up the next morning. "Do you know that it's nearly差不多 nine o'clock?" "What?" I shouted呼喊 as I jumped out of bed. I woke醒来 up Harris and George. We began to get ready and we remembered that we had packed捆扎 our toothbrushes, so we went to get them out of the suitcase手提箱.
This was not an easy job. At last, we were ready to eat breakfast. While we ate breakfast, George read the newspaper. He told us about the people killed杀死 on the river and about the bad weather report. George went to work and Harris and I finished our breakfast. That morning, Montmorency invited邀请 two of his friends to the house. They fought打(仗) most最多的 of the time. When we were finally最后 ready, we carried our luggage行李 to the road. We waited twenty minutes for a taxi.
Taxis usually通常地 come every three minutes. A crowd群 of people was watching us. They looked at us at Montmorency and at Montmorency's friends. They looked at all our luggage行李, a big suitcase手提箱, a small bag, two big hampers大篮子, some pans平底锅, some umbrellas, five coats and raincoats. At Waterloo Station, we took the 1105 train to Kingston. At Kingston, our boat小船 was waiting for us below the bridge. Harris and I put our luggage行李 in it. We got on the boat小船 happily快乐地, but Montmorency was worried担心的.
Harris took the oars桨 and we started our two-week trip[C] 旅行 on the River Thames. Harris was wearing磨损 a red and orange blazer. It was a beautiful sunny day. We were enjoying the first moments of our holiday假日. When we passed经过 Hampton Court Palace, Harris asked, "Have you ever在任何时候 visited the maze here?" He said he had gone into the maze once to show a friend. He studied a map of the maze before going in. He knew it was very easy to get out again.
Harris said to his friend, "We'll go in and walk around在周围 for 10 minutes. Then we'll come out and have lunch. It's very easy. Take the first turn轮流 to the right正确 each time." In the maze, they met some people who had been there for 45 minutes. They wanted to get out because they were lost失去. Harris said, "Follow跟随 me. I'm going out in 10 minutes." The people thanked him and started following跟随 him. Other people began following跟随 Harris too.
Some of them were worried担心的 and afraid. He continued继续 turning to the right正确, but he was still in the maze. Harris got lost失去. The people were angry with him. They all started calling把…叫做 for help帮手. A young keeper看护人 heard them and came to help, but he got lost失去 too. Finally最后, the old keeper看护人 came back from lunch. He let the people out. Everyone was tired and angry. Harris said, "Let's ask George to try尝试 the maze on our return回报 trip[C] 旅行."
"Not a bad idea想法," I said. When we passed经过 Molsey Lock, we were the only唯一的 boat小船 in the Big Lock. Usually通常地, the Lock is a very busy place. On Sundays, there are boats小船 everywhere. People like the river and the sun. It's such a beautiful picture. The river, the trees, the flowers and the people in their colorful富有色彩的 clothes. At Hampton, Harris wanted to stop the boat小船 and have a look at the church. I don't like visiting churches, but Harris loves it.
I came on the trip[C] 旅行 only because I wanted to visit Hampton Church. You know, I love churches, churchyards and tombs坟墓. The idea想法 of not seeing Hampton Church with Mrs. Thomas's tomb坟墓 makes me angry. "Who is Mrs. Thomas?" I asked. "I don't know, but she has a strange陌生的 tomb坟墓." I said, "We must be at Shepperton at five o'clock to meet George." Harris said, "George? Why can't George be here to do some work? Why doesn't he help us with this heavy boat小船?
What does he do at the bank? He sits behind a piece of glass all day and does nothing. I work. Why doesn't he work? I'm going to have a drink." "There are no pubs酒馆 near here. The nearest pub酒馆 is far away," I said. "What? We'll all die of thirst渴, no pubs酒馆?" "If you're thirsty口渴的, we have water in the boat小船," I said. "Water? Water makes people ill," he said. "However然而, I am very thirsty口渴的 and I must drink something." So he took the bottle and drank some water.
