In this masterclass, we're going to look at something British people love doing, being polite有礼貌的. No, I'm not coming to your party this evening. Wow, this food is disgusting令人讨厌的. Give me some of your lunch. Now, sometimes有时 it's okay to be direct直接的 or even甚至 blunt钝的 with your friends. But it's important重要的 not to sound听(诊) rude无礼的, particularly特别 in the workplace工作场所. We're going to look at four ways that you can soften使温和 your language to make you more更 polite有礼貌的. Okay, listen to these two requests.
Which one sounds听(诊) more更 polite有礼貌的 and less更少地 direct直接的 and why? Number one, pick me up on your way to the party this evening. Or number two, I was hoping you could give me a lift电梯 to the party. Now, number two is much more更 polite有礼貌的. We soften使温和 requests and suggestions and questions by using past过去的 forms, continuous连续不断的 forms, or both.
