Shui from the Guashashara tribe(部落) is defending(保卫) the Amazon rainforest, the traditional homeland( 祖国) of his people. He and his warriors(战士) are fighting against illegal logging in northeastern Brazil at the Arariboya indigenous(本土的) reserve(储备(物)). It's a perilous undertaking(工作). More than 60 warriors from his tribe alone have been killed in recent years. Shui has also received death threats(威胁), but he's not giving up. He and his fellow Guashashara feel they cannot rely(依赖) on government protection(保护) no matter what the outcome(结果) of Brazil's presidential elections.
They need to help themselves. Shui and his warriors are on patrol(巡逻). A chief( 领导) has informed(通知) them that loggers(樵夫) have gained access to his forest by bribing members of the indigenous(本土的) population. This makes Shui's mission(使命) even more dangerous. He can't let the corrupt(腐败的) tribe(部落) members know that he's on to them. "The clearing((森林中的)空旷地)'s up ahead. We'll go along here to get there."
They call themselves the guardians([法] 监护人) of the forest and defend(保卫) the Guashashara people's reserve(储备(物)) in Maranyau, Brazil. Shui and his group leave their weapons with the rest of the troop(军队), so they won't stand out while they're getting the lay of the land. They're going on ahead to scout(侦察) things out and look for clues of illegal logging. Hidden in a thicket(灌木丛), they discover one a prized tree that's been felled. They cut down the trees, but sometimes don't even take them away because they found something better. That's very hurtful to us warriors.
It's sad to see wood lying around like this. Tropical(热带的) hardwoods(硬木) from the Amazon are in demand( 要求) in Brazil and around the globe, but only logs(航行日志) of the right size. This one here will make lots of boards. Lots. And each one is costly(昂贵的). So the things of ours they're selling are extremely valuable.
Then they find someone's cut a swath through the forest illegally. This is the logger's transport route. The truck has been here already. Look at the destruction(破坏) they've caused. The tallest and strongest trees are gone, along with the parrots and numerous(许多的) other species who call the forest home. This here is the logger's unit of measure.
This is two units. You can use this to build a house for furniture, doors and gates. The logs can't be longer than this. Otherwise(另外), they won't fit into the truck. The loggers use bribes(贿赂) or intimidation to secure(保护) the help of the indigenous(本土的) population. They terrorize our tribesmen and offer them little things, like a packet(小包(裹)) of salt or such rubbish that doesn't even come close to paying for the wood that they take from us.
Then in the distance, they hear the roar(吼) of a chainsaw. If Shui and his men are going to confront(使面临) the loggers(樵夫), they need to find reinforcements(加固) fast or risk paying with their lives.
